What was the aim of the South?
To defend themselves and not lose

Because for the South, it was a war of defending their land

The South had a farming industry, not a heavy manufacturing industry

All shoe factories were based in the North, meaning shortage of shoes for the South
What did the South do to try and help their war efforts?
Obtain international support from France or Britain

France and Britain ended up not helping the South

They conscripted anyone who was able to fight

They did not use conscription and just used the forces they already had
Why was Northern conscription a disadvantage to Southern non-conscription?
The North could keep bringing people to fight when The South could not

Emancipation proclamation

What was a limitation of the emancipation proclamation?
It only freed slaves who were in Southern states that were reclaimed by the USA
What was the significance of when the emancipation proclamation was created?
It was in the middle of the civil war
What was the impact of the Emancipation Proclamation on the USA army?
It gave them a purpose for the fighting
What happened in the Southern States due to the Emancipation Proclamation?
They were portrayed to be bad for wishing to continue slavery

The slaves joined the USA army. Significant as it meant the USA had more power over the South
