What is the Cardiac Cycle?
The series of events that occurs when the heart beats.
What do arteries do?
Carry oxygenated blood at higher pressure from the heart to parts of the body.
What do veins do?
Carry deoxygenated blood at lower pressure from the body back to the heart.
What do Capillaries do?
Have thin walls that allow exchange of compounds between the blood and tissues.
What do heart valves do?
Open and close allowing blood to flow due to pressure changes in the chambers. Prevent backflow of blood.
What does the sinoatrial node do?
Causes impulses to travel through the atria causing them to contract and force blood into the ventricles. Sets the bears rhythm and and rate.
What does the atrioventricular node do?
Detects the impulse travelling through the atria and redirects the impulse to the bundle of His.
What is the bundle of his
A group of fibres in the septum which the impulse travels through to the base of the ventricles.
What do purkinje fibres do?
Act like neurons and are found in the walls of the ventricles. The impulse from the bundle of His reaches the purkinje fibres which cause ventricles to contract.
