the church should learn from society when it comes to attitudes towards homosexuality Flashcards
1
Q
1 point for yes and counter argument
A
- homosexuality is treated worse than other sins
- e.g. adultery
- women who commit adultery should be stoned to death
- counter argument that this is down to the culture of the time and now societies view have changed. Homosexuality is more acceptable due to liberal views. e.g. gay couples can get married
2
Q
1 point for no
A
- heterosexuality is the way God created the world
- going against gods plan if gay
- ‘on flesh’
3
Q
another point to argue yes and counter argument using biblical texts
A
- the bible passages don’t particularly say that homosexuality is wrong but gay gay rape is. e.g. the city of sodem
- on the other hand, in Leviticus is says ‘ man should not lie with man like they lie with women’
4
Q
argument for yes and counter argument
A
- homosexuals can now have children through IVF. Shows that the churches views haven’t kept up with modern technological advancements. Goes against the idea that ‘be fruitful and multiply’ is only for heterosexual couples
- to support use Aquinas idea that you need pleasure, reproduction and unity in sex. This can be seen in gay couples
- counter with IVF is unnatural and not part of gods plan therefore it goes against the natural order he created
