What does salience mean
The activity has become the most inportant thing in the individual’s life. It dominates their thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
What does mood modification mean
When the individual engages in the behaviour they experience a change in their mood. This might be a ‘high’ or a ‘buzz’.
What does tolerance mean
As tome goes on, an individual will need more of the drug or behaviour to achieve the same effects as they have built up a tolerance to it.
What are withdrawal symptoms
If the behaviour is stopped then the individual will experience withdrawal symptoms. These can be physical, for example nausea, or psychological, for example moodiness.
