North : Used to be heavy on manufacturing but due to deindustrialisation this has declined
South : Increase in tertiary and quaternary, based on the finance in London
Name a case study that was involved in economic diversification
Sheffield used to have a large steel manufacturing company but with deindustrialisation a loss of 120,000 came. This shifted to tertiary and quaternary jobs as software development and business.
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of Sheffield’s economic diversification
A: Water quality improved, air quality improved, regeneration of land. Such as meadowhall.
D: More traffic to get to jobs out of Sheffield, loss of jobs, derelict land
What is a brownfield and a greenfield site
Brown : Used before, but been abandoned. Infrastructure already exists so it could cost more to knock down and start again.
Green: either farming or woodland and the site has never been built on before. Easy access, may kill habitats.
