The process
Hymns- focus on God
Opening statement from priest- summary on importance of marriage
Declarations- witnesses and couple confirm they’re free to marry and to love and comfort each other
The process 2
Vows- promises are made to God and each other
Exchange of rings- symbolic of eternal love and never ending ‘agape’
Proclamation- the couple is now man and wife
Prayers for the couple- sometimes also a sermon about marriage
The process 3
Register signed- legal aspect of the ceremony and record that it’s legal
Closing worship- usually followed by a reception or party
Giving away
The bride is given away by her father to show she is starting a new family unit
The dress
White dress shows purity and not had sex before
Mass
End of service to show that it is a sacrament
Confetti
Thrown to symbolise fertility and having lots of children which was Gods command to Adam
The vows
God- he will join the couple as one flesh
Witnesses- you have made a public declaration
Your partner- all the promises you made were to them, you have the responsibility to keep them
Why churches?
Held in a church so that God can witness the special promise and vows which are to be faithful, follow Gods wishes and to love each other for ever
