The Cell Cycle Flashcards
Do most cells have a certain life span?
Yes, most cells have a certain life span.
What do cells do in their life span (in order)?
In this order, 1) Cells grow 2) Preform their intended function and 3) Replicate their DNA.
Why are cells so small?
Cells can only grow to a certain size or else they can no longer take in enough nutrients to keep themselves alive.
What do cells do instead of dying?
Instead of dying, the cells divides in two new daughter cells from the original cell. This keeps the cells small so that they can continue to survive.
qWhat is divided when the cells splits?
When a cells divides it splits its cytoplasm and the nucleus equally between each of the daughter cells.
What is the original cell and the two new cells called?
The original cell is called the parent cell and the two identical cells are called daughter cells.
What do the daughter cells do once they split?
Each daughter cells will grow preform its functions and replicate its DNA. When each daughter cell gets too big, it will divide into two more cells and the whole process continues over again.
What is the repeating process of growing and dividing called?
Because this process of growing and dividing repeats itself over and over again, the life of the cell is called, “The Cell Cycle.”
What is the cell cycle split up into?
Interphase and Mitosis
When do cells divide?
Cells divide when it gets too big or when it needs to heal injured cells.
