The Cell Cycle Flashcards
what are the stages of the cell cycle?
interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telephase, cytokinesis
Interphase
the period when a cell grows and prepares for division
G1-Cell growth, S-Genetic material replicates, G2-more growth
prophase
Prepare; 2 centriole pairs move to opposite ends of the cell, nuclear envelope dissappears
metaphase
Middle; chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, spindle fibers attach to the chromosomes
Anaphase
Apart; the chromatids are pulled apart and seperate
Telophase
Two; chromosomes unravel into chromatin, two nuclear envelopes begin to form
cytokinesis
division of the cytoplasm
Cell death-Apoptosis
Normal Programmed cell death(sun burn peeling, webbing fingers and toes in the womb)
stem cells
cells that are not specialized; when they divide, they produce one stem cell and one progenitor cell.
what is a progenitor
a cell that is partially specialized and will divide to become a few types of cells
Cell Differentiation
The process of specialization
