The Cell Cycle Flashcards
What happens at the mitosis stage of the cell cycle?
The cycle starts and ends here
What happened at gap phase 1 of the cell cycle?
The cells grow and new cells structure and proteins are made
What happened at S phase of the cell cycle?
The cells replicate its DNA, then it spits during mitosis the two new cells will contain identical DNA
What happened in gap phase 2 of the cell cycle?
The cells keeps growing and proteins needed for cell division
How is the DNA replicated during S phase?
Molecule of DNA splits
The bases pair up with the complementary bases on the DNA
And the new bases join together so two new DNA molecules identical to the original one are formed
What happened in mitosis?
The cell has two copies of its DNA all spread out in long strings
Before the cell divides, the DNA forms X shaped chromosome. Each “arm” of chromosomes is an exact copy of the other
Chromosomes then line up at the centre of the cell then cell fibres pull them apart. The two arms of each chromosome go to opens of the cell
Membranes from around each of the sets of chromosomes.
Lastly the cytoplasm divides
Two new cells containing exactly the same DNA
What is cytokinesis?
Cell membrane pinches inwards causing the cell to eventually divide
