Magnification Flashcards
What does the eyepiece lens do?
You look through to see the image and also magnifies the image
What the does objective lens do?
It magnifies the image
What is the purpose of the stage?
It supports the slide
What is the purpose of the clip?
Holds the slide in place
What is the purpose of the handle?
Use the carry the light microscope around with
What is the purpose of the lamp?
Shines a light on the slide so the image can be seen more easily
What is the purpose of the focusing knobs?
Move the stage up and down to the image into focus
How do you view a specimen once it has been prepared
Clip the slide onto the stage
Select the lower objective lens
Use the course, adjustment knob to bring the stage closer to the object lens
Look down the eyepiece and use the adjustment knob to make it so the specimen is just about in focus
Then, if needed, readjust the objective lens and use the course, and find objective lens to refocus
How do you prepare a specimen before an investigation with a light microscope?
The specimen needs to be able to have light pass through it
Then take a clean slide and use a puppet to put one drop of water onto the slide
Use tweezers to place the piece of specimen onto the slide
Add a drop of stain
Place a cover slip on top of the slide by using a mountain needle and lower it at an angle to decrease the chance of any air bubbles
What is the formula for total magnification?
Total magnitude= eyepiece lens magnitude X objective lens magnification
What is the formula for magnification?
Magnification = image size \ real size
