the cell cycle Flashcards
what is stage 1?
dna replicates to form 2 copies of each chromosomes
whats stage 2
one set of chromosome is pulled to each end of the cell and the nucleus divides (mitosis)
whats stage 3:
cytoplasm and cell membrane divide too
what is stem cells:
undifferentiated cell, able to make many cells of the same type through division and differenation
whats therapeutic cloning
embryo is produce with the same gene as patient.
its not rejected by the patients body so may used for medical treatment
advantages of theraputic cloning
could cure diseases (diabetes/ paralysis) cells unlikely reject cell and tissue of any type can be made reduce time for transplant many cells reproduced
negative effects of theraputic cloning
potntial life killed
shortage of egg doner
may transfer viral infection
poor success rate
what is meristem
it can differentiate into any type of plant cell, throughout the life of the plant. used to clone plants quickly and econmcally
uses of meristem
large amounts of identical plants
genetically identical- so you know the characteristics
produce plants that are difficult to grow
planting rare plants to prevent extintion
what an embroyonic stem cell
undifferentiated cell found in early embryo. wuth potential to differentiate into lots of cells in the body
