The Cell Flashcards
What is the job of the nucleus?
The nucleus runs that controls all the cells activities by controlling the proteins are made. Is the control center of the cell and tells everything what to do.
What does the plasma membrane do?
The plasma membrane controls what enters and leaves the cell. In this way it helps the cell survive by giving and removing things. It removes things that could harm the cell.
What does the DNA do.
The DNA stores the instructions for making protein.
What happens in the nucleolus?
The nucleolus is the site where ribosomes are made.
What happens in the endoplasmic reticulum?
The ER is where proteins and lipids (also fats) are made.
There are two kinds of ERs, what happens in the rough ER?
The rough ER is covered in ribosomes which makes proteins in a process called protein synthesis.
What happens in the smooth ER?
And the smooth ER lipids are made in a process called lipid synthesis. (Synthesis means to make.)
What does the Golgi apparatus do?
The Golgi receives proteins and fats from ERs packages them and sends them around the cell.
What is the mitochondria?
The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell because it contains all the energy the cell needs to function.
What is the lysosome?
The lysosome is an organelle which contains the digestive enzymes used to break down materials in the cell along with waste products.
What is the cytoskeleton?
The cytoskeleton is another structure which acts as the support system and allow us to cell to keep it’s shape.
What is the cytosol?
The fluid inside the cell which covers all the organelles.
What is cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm allows things to move around in the cell. Kind of like the cell
Floor.
