The Caridac Cycle Flashcards
What does the term ‘cardiac cycle’ mean?
Series of pressure changes within the heart which result in movement of blood
Define stroke volume
The vol. of blood pumped out of LV of the heart during contraction
Define diastole
Relaxation of heart muscles
Define systole
Contraction of heart muscles
Define mean arterial pressure
The average arterial pressure throughout one cardiac cycle
Define end-diastolic volume. -
The amount of blood in the ventricles before the heart contracts.
What makes the heart sounds?
Closing of AV valves and SL valves
What causes coronary artery disease?
-accumulation of plaque in arteries
-restricts blood flow
What are risk factors of coronary artery disease?
- genetic (diabetics)
- high b.p/cholesterol
- lifestyle
How can you calculate the stroke volume?
End diastolic volume - end systolic volume
What are the two examples of congenital heart disease?
Acyanotic
Cyanotic
What’s the blood like in Acyanotic congenital heart disease?
-blood has normal blood O2 level
What’s the blood like in Cyanotic congenital heart disease?
- blood has lower O2 level (blue colour)
What’s the tetralogy of fallot referring to?
- 4 defects = Blue baby
