Cardiovascular Regulation Flashcards
What’s the role of the cardiovascular centre?
MEDULLA OBLONGATA
- baro/chemo receptors
What’s the baroreceptor reflex?
PRESSURE RECEPTOR
1. Baro receptors detect stimuli
2. Afferent pathway -> coordination centre (cranial nerves)
3. Efferent pathways -> effector (through vagus nerve)
What are the atrial and pulmonary stretch receptors?
- respond to changes in blood pressure
- regulate blood volume (influence cardiac output)
What are chemoreceptors reflexes?
Monitor chemical composition changes in blood
- respiratory regulation
Discuss the hormonal regulation of blood pressure.
Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System
1. fall in blood volume/renal blood flow
2. detected by juxtaglomerular cells in kidney
3. release renin
4. vasoconstriction
5. secretion of aldosterone
6. increased retention of Na+ and H2O in kidneys
7. increase blood volume
