The Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
What is nodal tissue?
specialized muscle cells which act as nerve cells by conducting impulses that result in heart contraction
what is myogenic muscle?
muscle that contracts without external nerve stimulation
what is the SA node?
(found in wall of right atrium) contracts atrial chambers and stimulates AV node
what is the AV node?
(found in septum) contracts atria, relays impulse to bundle
what does the atrioventricular bundle do?
stimulates purkinje fibers, contractions of ventricles
what are purkinje fibers?
(extends through walls of ventricles) ventricular contraction
what does Systole mean?
contraction
what does Diastole mean?
relaxation
where does the “lub” sound come from?
closing of the AV valves
where does the “dub” sound come from?
closing of the semilunar valves
what are the three steps (waves) when talking about the electrocardiograph?
- P wave = atria contracts
- QRS wave = ventricles contract
- T wave = ventricles recover
What can be detected from an ECG?
a fast, slow, or abnormal heart rhythm, heart disease or defect, ect.
what is the tachycardia?
first heart beat (>100b/min)
what is the bradycardia?
slower heart beat (<60b/min)
what is the average/normal heart rate for a grown up?
70 beats per minute
