LANDDRACE

colored black with white belt around the shoulder the shoulder and body
generally long legged and lack body thickness
the sows have a reputation of weaning a high percentage of the pigs farrowed and are able to adopt to very rugged conditions.
The growth rate however rate has generally ben average or below
HAMPSHIRE
Black with six white points (4 white feet; some white in the face and tail)
The ears are erect and inclined forward as the animal grows older
Known for their meatiness and good adaptability to rugged conditions
The have the desirable length, depth and balance of body but lack good growth and efficiency in converting feed to weight gain
The sows are not as the other breeds but produce well when crossed with other breeds.
BERKSHIRE
Pigs are black with six white points (the face, feet and tail)
Ears are slightly drooping
They are rugged but do not grow as fast as the other breeds
The sows lack prolificacy but produce well when crossed with any of the common breeds.
POLAND CHINA
Spotted black & white medium sized ear pointed upward or sometimes slightly drooping. Its snout is moderately long & dished
With good muscle development in the ham, loin & shoulder with thin backfat thickness
Good mothering performance & reproductive ability
Its disadvantage is its weak hind legs; slow grower & its susceptibility to stress
PIETRAIN
If available, they are prolific and adapt well to rugged condition but growth rate is slow
Beginners in the industry should first raise native pigs and graduate to improved breeds.
PHILIPPINE NATIVE
Do not have distinguishing physical characteristics that may differentiate them from other pigs
Most are white with good muscle development
Sows are highly prolific; better & more uniform litter & heavier piglet weight at birth
Hybrid pigs for slaughter are outstanding in terms of growth rate; FCR & carcass quality
Produced thru genetic engineering involving the application of comprehensive testing procedure & is computer aided. It aims to take advantage of hybrid vigor or heterosis

HYPOR

This breed has evolved from continuous selection & cross breeding of the other excellent breeds namely Landrace, Large White & Pietrain.
Color is white with black spots with small head. Its figure is elongated but robust
Has excellent meat quality with minimum backfat
Sows have high litter size & superior mothering ability

Arrived the country in 1975 & was considered as the best source of lean meat
Its great grandparents are from Belgium & was imported by Robina farms
