The Brain and Nervous System Flashcards
What makes up the CNS?
Brain and Spinal Cord
How does the CNS control the body?
By receiving information from sense organs and then carrying out the appropriate response
What is information in the CNS carried by?
Neurones
What is the cerebrum?
Controls memory, reasoning, conscious thought and intelligence
What is the function of the cerebellum?
Balance and muscular co-ordination
What is the function of the medulla ?
Controls breathing and heart rate
Describe the reflex arc?
Sensory organ detects dangerous stimuli
Sensory nerve carries information and synapses to interneurones within CNS
Interneurones carry information from CNS and synapse with motor neurones, which then tell the muscle or gland to carry out the appropriate response
