The Brain Flashcards
Cerebrum function (T.I.M.L.R.R)
Thinking, intelligence, memory, learning, reasoning, sense of responsibility
Cerebellum function
Fine motor skill
Posture/balance
Where does the cerebellum receive information?
Muscles and ears
Can we still move without the cerebellum?
Yes because nerve impulses aren’t generated here
Although, movements are unco-ordinated with trouble writing, typing, playing instruments etc
Corpus Callosum function
Allows two hemispheres to communicate with each other
Where is the corpus callosum?
Base of the longitudinal fissure
Hypothalamus function
Maintain homeostasis
Regulate autonomic nervous system
Medulla oblongata function
With influence from the hypothalamus it,
Regulates the heart, breathing, diameter of blood vessels
Medulla oblongata structure
Continuation of the spinal cord entering the skull, 3cm long
Nerves pass into and out of the brain
Longitudinal fissure
Separates cerebrum into hemispheres
Left hemisphere
Language abilities
Right hemisphere
Musical and artistic abilities
Sensory area
Receives and processes nerve impulses from the senses
Motor area
Send impulses into muscle, especially for voluntary movement
Association area
Interpret info. from senses and makes useful - memory
