Q

What is the PIA MATER and what does it do?

A

Tissue paper thin innermost layer, CLOSE to the brain and spinal cord with lots of blood vessels
Provides blood brain barrier (BBB)
- only essential nutrients enter brain
- protects against pathogens

Q

What is CEREBROSPINAL FLUID, where is it found, and what does it do?

A

Clear colourless fluid formed in blood, containing glucose, proteins, urea, salts
Found between Pia + arachnoid mater and circulates the CNS
Carries nutrients to the CNS and acts as a shock absorber when CNS hit
