The Brain Flashcards
1
Q
Hindbrain
A
The medulla- control of breathing, heartbeat and digestion
The pons-receive information sent from visual areas to control eye and body actions
Cerebellum-coordinate the sequence of body movement
2
Q
Midbrain
A
Reticular formation-control of arousal and in the sleep wake cycle
3
Q
Forebrain
A
Cerebrum- higher thinking
Hypothalamus-basic survival actions: sleep, regulation of body temperature, expression of emotion and the four “F’s” (feeding, fighting, fleeing and fornication
Thalamus-receives information from the ears, eyes, skin and other sensory organ.
4
Q
FPOT AND MSVA
A
Frontal lobe (abstract thought, social skills, planning) Parietal lobe (touch, non-verbal though, spatial orientation) Occipital lobe (vision) Temporal lobe (hearing, language, visual recognition)
Primary Motor cortex (movement) Somatosensory cortex (receptors from skin) Visual cortex (visual information from the eyes) Auditory cortex (sound information)
5
Q
Hemispheric specialisation
A
One hemisphere has specialised functions, or that it exerts greater control over a particular function. Examples Right brain Analysis by touch Left brain Writing
