CNS AND PNS Flashcards
CNS
Central Nervous System
The brain and spinal cord.
The spinal cord enables the brain to communicate with the rest of the body though the PNS
PNS
Peripheral nervous system
All the other nerves in the body
Communicate information from the body’s organs, glands and muscle to the CNS and vice versa.
Somatic Nervous System
Responsible for the voluntary movement of skeletal muscle.
Motor neurons communicate messages from the CNS to the particular muscles that need to move.
Sensory neurons convey messages from sensations
Autonomic Nervous System
Autonomic Nervous System operates without voluntary control or conscious awareness
Sympathetic Nervous System
Emergency System that become active when the organism perceives itself in danger or in times of stress
Fight,flight or freeze response
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Operates in circumstances where it is relatively calm.
Homeostasis
