Describe the air raids on Britain.

A

> at first industrial cities and airfields were targeted

  • following the bombing of Berlin on 7th September, hitler began mass civilian bombing in London and other cities

> 7th sept- 2nd November, London was bombed every night

> overall 45,000 were killed and 3.5 million houses were destroyed.

> German for ‘thunder, was the word coined by the British press to describe the frequent bombing raids on Britain in 1940-41

A

> the Battle of Britain took place high in the skies of the South British countryside

> RAF were heavily outnumbered by the LW 2,915: 4,550

> Britain was spared when Germany changed their tactics

> hitler outraged after British bombing of Berlin. On 7th Sept 1940 the heavy civilian air raids begun.
