> July 31st 1940, followed by an invasion in September
> Luftwaffe targeted mostly Airfields and British shipping on the channel.
Describe the air raids on Britain.
> at first industrial cities and airfields were targeted
- following the bombing of Berlin on 7th September, hitler began mass civilian bombing in London and other cities
> 7th sept- 2nd November, London was bombed every night
> overall 45,000 were killed and 3.5 million houses were destroyed.
What was ‘the blitz’?
> German for ‘thunder, was the word coined by the British press to describe the frequent bombing raids on Britain in 1940-41
How did the Battle of Britain transition into the Blitz?

> RAF were heavily outnumbered by the LW 2,915: 4,550
> Britain was spared when Germany changed their tactics
