He pillaged and rampaged the coast.

He entered the Humber and sailed up the river Ouse.
They went towards what city?
York.
Then the disembarked leaving how many men to guard their fleet?
3000 warriors.
Before reaching York what happened?
Edwin and Morcar’s armies of 4500 met up with him.
What was the battleground called?
It was marshy and called Germany Beck. It was in Fulford.
What was an interesting feature of the battle ground?
A tidal tributary of the Ouse.
What battle tactic did the English use?
They used a shield wall. Where every man was tightly packed protected not only be their own but someone else’s shield.
What tactic the the Vikings use?
They positioned the worst warrior facing the English with Tostig on the other side of the beck while his most experienced with him, hidden out of sight though ready.
Why did Tostig join Harald?
He was axed by his brother as the earl of Northumbria and replaced him with Morcar, Edwin’s brother.
