What is a macule?
Area of altered colour, but the skin texture is normal. e.g. vitiligo.
What is a papule?
Small lumps, less than 5 mm.
What is a nodule?
Lumps bigger than 5mm
What is a plaque?
An area of altered texture which is palpable
What is atrophy?
Thinning of tissues such as the epidermis, dermis, subcutis.
What are vesicles?
Small blisters
What are bullae?
Large blisters
What are pustules?
Collection of leukocytes, often producing white heads.
What is sclerosis?
Excessive fibrous tissue in the dermis, resulting in loss of elasticity, hair and sweat glands.
What is this skin issue called?
Lichenification: it is thickening of the epidermis, which creates a leathery appearance. This is an example of atopic eczema.
What is this skin issue?
Telangiectases: it is due to dilated vessels.
