How do you treat acne?

A
  • Antiandrogens.
  • Drying agents: benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid.
  • Tetracyclines e.g. doxycycline. and erythromycin. Acne recurrs when stopped.
  • Isotretinoin: 95% successful but with heaps of size effects.
  • Blue light treatment

What is acne inversa?

A

Its similar to acne vulgaris but occurs in the axilla and groin areas.

A

Treated with tetracyclines or isotretinoin - may require continuous treatment.

  • It differs from acne as there are no comedones, and the papules and pustules are very small.
  • Treated with acne antibiotics (tetracycline and erythromycin) until the rash is gone (up to 6 weeks).
