The Back Flashcards
Lx - Long Group - Erector Spinae
Extension and erect Posture
Iliocostalis - illium to ribs
Longissimus
Spinallis
Lx - Oblique Group - Transversospinalis
Stability - stabilise and fixators
Semispinalis
Multifidus
Rotatores (Longus and Brevis)
Lx - Short Group
Intertransversale - Between transverse processes
Interspinales - between spinous processes
Levatores costarum - vertebrae to ribs
Trapezius - Origin & Insertion
Origin Upper: Medial third of superior nuchal line Middle: external occipital protuberance Lower: Nuchal Lig. Spinous processes of C7-T12 Insertion Upper: Clavicle Middle: Acromion & Spine of Scap Lower: Medial part of spine of scap
Trapezius - Action & Innervation
Upper: Elevate Scap
Middle: Retract Scap
Lower: Depress & upwardly rotate scap
Inervation - Accessory Nerve (CN XI) C3,C4 (pain and Proprioception)
Levator Scapulae - Origin & Insertion
O: Posterior Tubercles of transverese processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
I: Medial Border of scapular superior to root of spine
Levator Scapulae - Action & Innervation
Elevates Scapular and tilts its glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating the scapular
Innervation: Dorsal scapular (C5) amd Cervical (C3, C4) nerves
Rhomboids - Origin & Innsertion
Minor:
O: Nuchal Lig. Spinous Process of C7 and T1 Vertebrae
I: Smooth triangular area at medial end of scapular spine
Major:
O: Spinous Processes of T2-T5 vertebrae
I: Medial border of scapular from level of spine to inferior angle
Rhomboids - Action & Innervation
Retract scapular and rotate it to depress glenoid cavity, fix scapular to thoracic wall – Retract & Inferiorly rotate
Innervation: Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5)
Pectoralis Minor - Origin & Insertion
O: 3rd-5th ribs near their costal cartilages
I: Medial Border & sup. surface of coracoid process of scapular
Pectoralis Minor - Action & Innervation
Stabilises scapular by drawing it inferiorly and anteriorly against the thoracic wall – Anterior Tilt
Innervation: Medial Pectorial Nerve (C8, T1)
Serratus Anterior - Origin & Insertion
O: External surfaces of Lateral parts of 1st-8th ribs - Large broad attachments
I: Anterior surface of medial border of scapular
Serratus Anterior - Action & Innervation
Protracts scapular and holds it against thoracic wall, rotates scapular - Main Protractor!
Lower part = strong upwards rotator of scap
Innervation: Long Thoracic Nerve (C5, C6, C7)
