Shoulder Joint Flashcards
Deltoid
O: Lateral third of clavicle; acromion & spine of scap
I: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Deltoid - Innovation & Action
Innovation: Axillary Nerve (C5/6)
Action:
Anterior part - Flexes & medially rotates
Middle part - Abducts arm
Posterior Part - Extends & Laterally Rotates
Supraspinatus
O: Supraspinous fossa of scap
I: Sup facet of greater tubercle of humerus
Supraspinatus - Action & innervation
Action: Initiates & assists deltoid in abduction of arm & acts with rotator cuff muscles Innervation: Suprascapular N (C4/5/6)
Infraspinatus
O: Infraspinous fossa of scap
I: Middle focet of greater tubercle of humerus
Infraspinatus - Action & Innervation
A: Laterally Rotates arm; Helps to hold humeral head in glenoid cavity
Innervation: Suprascapular N (C5/6)
Teres Minor
O: Middle part of lateral border of scap
I: Inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
Teres Minor - Action & Innervation
Action: Lat rotate arm, help hold humeral head in glenoid cavity of scap
Innervation: Axillary N (C5/6)
Subscapularis
O: Subscapular fossa (most anterior surface of scap)
I: Lesser tubercle of humerus
Subscapularis - Action & Innervation
Action: Medially rotate & adduct arm; Helps to hold humeral head in glenoid cavity
Innervation: Upper & Lower subscapular N (C5/6/7)
Teres Major
O: Posterior surface of inferior angle of scap
I: Medial Lip of interubercular groove of humerus
Teres Major - Action & Innervation
Action: Adducts & medially rotates arm
Innovation: Lower Scap N (C5/6)
Coracobrachialis
O: Tip of coracoid process of scap
I: middle third of medial surface of humerus
Coracobrachialis - Action & Innervation
Action: Helps flex & adducts arm; resists dislocation of shoulder
Innervation: Musculocutaneus N (C5/6/7)
Pectoralis Major
O:
Clavicular Head - Anterior surface of medial half of clavicle
Sternal Head - Anterior surface of sternum, superior 6 costal cartilages, aponeurosis of external oblique muscles
I: Lateral lip of intertubercular groove of humerus
Pectoralis Major - Action & Innervation
Action: Adducts & medially rotates humerus, draws scap anteriorly and inferiorly
clavicular head = flexes humerus
sternal head = extends humerus from flexed position
Innervation: Lateral & medial pectoral N Clavicular Head (C5/6), Sternal head (C7/8/T1)
Latissimus Dorsi
O: Spinous process of inferior 6 vertebrae, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, and inferior 3 or 4 ribs
I: floor of intertubecular groove of humerus
Latissimus Dorsi - Action & Innervation
Action: Extends, adducts & medially/internally rotates the humerus - raises body towards arms
Innervation: Thoracodorsal N (C6/7/8)
Serratus Anterior
O: external surface of lat parts of 1-8 ribs
I: An surface of medial border of scap
Serratus Anterior - Action & Innervation
A: Protracts scap, holds in against thoracic wall, rotates
I: long thoracic Nerve (C5-7)
Pectoralis Minor
O: 3-5th ribs near costal cartilages
I: medial border & sup surface of coracoid process of scap
Pectoralis Minor - Action & Innervation
A: stabilises scap by drawing it inf and ant against thoracic wall
Ant Tilt
I: Medial Pectorial N
Rhomboids Major & Minor
Major:
O: spinous process of t2-t5
I: medial border of scap from spine to inferior angle
Minor:
O: nuchal lig, spinous process of c7-t1
I: smooth triangular area at medial end of scap spine
Rhomboids - Action & Innervation
A: retracts scap, inferiorly rot
I: dorsal scap n
Levator scapulae
O: Post tubercles of transverse process of c1-c4
I: medial border of scap sup to root of spine
Levator Scapulae
A: elevates scap, tilts glenoid cavity inferiorly
I: dorsal scap nerve & Cervical N
Trapezius
Upper: O: medial third of sup nuchal line I: Clavicle Middle: O: External occipital protuberance I: acromion & spine of scap Lower: O: nuchal lig, spinous process of C7-T12 I: Medial Part of spine of scap
Trapezius - Action & Innervation
Action Upper: elevates Middle: Retracts Lower: Depress & upwardly rotate scap Innervation: Accessory N & 11th cranial N
