Q

The gold foil experiment

A

This experiment disproved the plum pudding model. They fired positively charged alpha particles at a thin sheet of gold. The particles went in 3 directions: straight through, deflected sideways or deflected backwards. This disproves the plum pudding because it should have mostly passed through but it didn’t

Q

Rutherford model

A

From the gold foil experiment came a new theory:
Their was a positively charged center
Was surrounded by a cloud of negativity electrons
Mostly empty space

Q

Atoms contain and there properties

A

Relative Mass > relative charge

  • protons> 1 > +1
  • neutrons> 1 > 0
  • electrons> negligible > -1
