phonetic description: we want to spesify which part of the lower articulators is raised towards which part of the upper articulators
phonological: what is unpredictable

What does voice vs. voicless mean?

A

In a word like leaving the /v/ is voiced as opposed to the voiceless /f/ in leafing. But in the word leave the /v/ is hardly voiced wheras the /f/ in leaf is voiced. /F/ i articulated with greater force than /v/
