Slave revolt that failed when Gabriel Prosser, a slave preacher and blacksmith, organized a thousand slaves for an attack on Richmond, Virginia, in 1800.
Gabriel’s Rebellion
A period of brutal conflict in the French colony of Saint-Domingue led by Toussaint L’Ouverture from 1794 to 1804. It lead to the elimination of slavery and the establishment of Haiti as the first republic ruled by people of African ancestry.
Haitian Revolt
1792 he suffered from a skin condition which turned his skin white–> white people saw him as living proof of their theory that the Black color comes from leprosy and something “cured” him
Henry Moss
Written by Thomas Jefferson and published in 1785; a comparison of the races that claimed blacks lacked, partly due to natural incapacity and partly because the bitter experience of slavery had rendered them disloyal to the nation.

US warship, the British thought that the ship might be carrying deserters of the British navy so they fired cannons at the sloop, killing 3 Americans and wounding others. 4 deserters were found on the ship and one was hanged.

a famous chief of the Shawnee who tried to unite Indian tribes against the increasing white settlement (1768-1813)

the Prophet; inspired a religious revival that spread through many tribes and united them; killed by Harrison at battle of Tippecanoe

A Native American religious prophet who, by preaching pan-Indian unity and rejection of European technology and commerce, helped inspire Pontiac’s Rebellion.

The war between the Confederacy of Indians and White settlers(1785-1795); also known as the Ohio War
Northwest Indian War
The U.S. Army defeated the Native Americans under Shawnee Chief Blue Jacket and ended Native American hopes of keeping their land that lay north of the Ohio River
Battle of Fallen Timbers
Creek natives who allied with Tecumseh (and therefore the British) in the War of 1812 to try to protect their land. Lost at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend against Andrew Jackson
Red Stick Creeks
The seventh President of the United States (1829-1837), who as a general in the War of 1812 defeated the British at New Orleans (1815). As president he opposed the Bank of America, objected to the right of individual states to nullify disagreeable federal laws, and increased the presidential powers.
Andrew Jackson
Battle between Americans and Native Americans. Tecumseh and the Prophet attempted to oppress white settlement in the West, but defeated by William Henry Harrison. Led to talk of Canadian invasion and served as a cause to the War of 1812.

“Father of the Constitution,” Federalist leader, and fourth President of the United States.

A war (1812-1814) between the United States and England which was trying to interfere with American trade with France.

British practice of taking American sailors and forcing them into military service
Impressment
Southerners and Westerners who were eager for war with Britain. They had a strong sense of nationalism, and they wanted to takeover British land in North America and expand.
