What is the Bill of Rights?
First 10 Amendments are the Bill of Rights, which list basic rights that the federal government must protect
What is the 22nd Amendment?
The Amendment that prohibits any person from being elected president more than twice
What is the 1st Amendment?
Limits the power of Congress
5 Freedoms: Freedom of speech, Freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom to assemble, right to petition the government
What is freedom of expression?
Protects our freedom of expression (speech, press, assembly, petition)
Limits on freedom of expression: if it dangerous, or if it conflicts with someone else’s rights
What is freedom of religion?
Freedom of religion : congress can’t establish an offical religion for the country, Congress can’t stop you from have religious beliefs.
What is the 2nd Amendment?
Right to bear arms, no infringement of a Militia
What is the 4th Amendment?
Protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures and requires that warrants be issued only for ‘probable cause’
What is the 5th Amendment?
No person will have their life, liberty or property taken away by the federal government whithout due process of law.
* Protects your right to be treated fairly by the government
What is the 8th Amendment?
No excessive bails, fines or cruel and unusual punishments
