The adrenal gland and adrenal hormones Flashcards
1
Q
What is aldosterone responsible for?
A
The extracellular volume due to its action on Na retention/absorption by the kidney.
2
Q
What is arginine vasopressin (AVP) responsible for?
A
regulates osmolarity because of its effect on free water balance (indirectly affects Na concentration)
3
Q
What cells synthesise aldosterone?
A
glomerulosa cells
4
Q
Why is aldosterone’s synthesis rate limited?
A
there is no storage pool of pre-synthesised hormone so the synthesis is limited by the rate at which the glomerulosa cells can synthesise the hormone.
5
Q
What stimulates the production of aldosterone?
A
ACTH, extracellular [K+] [Na+], and the peptide hormone ANG II
