Describe 4 consequences of the Abyssinian Crisis.

A

Italy took over the capital, marking the end of the league.

Hitler calculate that the LoNs were too preoccupied with Mussolini and marched his troops into the Rhineland.

Hitler and Mussolini signed the Rome Berlin axis, it ended France and Britain’s hopes of an ally against Hitler. When Japan joined the Axis it became the Anti-Comintern Pact.

Italy withdrew from LoN in 1937.

Making ATLEAST 4 points, describe the Abyssinian Crisis.

A

Mussolini wanted to take over Abyssinia because he wanted military glory to take the peoples attention from the depression. Also, it was one of the few areas of Africa that was not already overtaken. The League of Nations chose sanctions, they banned the sale of weapons and other goods, as well as all loans. However they did not ban oil which was being supplied by the USA or iron and steel from France or coal from Britain as thy feared this could effect their economies. This was not collective security but the countries putting their selfish interests first. Italy then took over the capital which marked the end of the league. Italy became part of the Anti-Comintern Pact with Germany and Japan, he withdrew from the League of Nations in 1937.
