The 4 Loves: How To Build Great Relationships Flashcards
Reinforce the lesson. Put it into practice
John 13:34-35
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,so you must love one another. By thiseveryone will knowthatyou are my disciples, if you love one another.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. [2] People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, [3] without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, [4] treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— [5] having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
Matthew 23:25-28 NIV
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. [26] Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. [27] “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. [28] In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
What the religious world doesn’t understand about relationships (Matt. 23:25-28):
Authentic Christianity = honest and real about who we are.
Religious Christianity = more worried about looking good than being real.
We all have bad days (often) and should want others to know that about us. Being real about who we are helps us relax.
What the secular world doesn’t understand about relationships (2 Tim 3:1-5):
That love for self (over others) is evil.
Love for money is about attachment, not amount
Obeying parents is learning to live under authority and in relationship.Learning to love others makes us secure.
We look for happiness in pleasure when we don’t know how to find pleasure in loving others. Purity is the way we love more. Wives know their husband is finding pleasure elsewhere when there is disinterest in marriage.
1 John4:16-17TLB
We know how much God loves us becausewe have felt his loveand because we believe him when he tells us that he loves us dearly.God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him.And as we live with Christ, our love grows more perfect and complete; so we will not be ashamed and embarrassed at the day of judgment, but can face him with confidence and joy because he loves us and we love him too.
What God teaches us about love:
The goal is to be a more loving person.
The greatest sacrifice we can make is with our time.
