TG. 4 - AI, Robotics Flashcards
AI
subfield of computer science that studies the thought process of humans, recreating effects of those processes through information systems
what does AI do?
- perform tasks that normally require human intelligence
- tasks that human perform, not how humans think
strong AI
- hypothetical AI
- matches or exceeds human intelligence
- considered to have consciousness or sentience
Weak AI (Narrow AI)
- performs useful specific function
- performed at human levels or better
- ex. character/speech recognition, machine vision, robotics, data mining, medical informatics, automated investing, etc.
advancements in chip technology
GPU chips - created to meet the visual + parallel processing demands of video games
Big data
diverse, high-volume, high-velocity information assets that require new types of processing to enable enhanced decision making, insight discovery + process optimization
being used to train deep learning software
the internet and cloud computing
make big data available to AI systems (specifically neural networks) + provide computational capacity needed for AI systems
algorithim
problem-solving method expressed as a finite sequence of steps
improved algorithms
- rapidly improving capabilities of AI algorithms
- run much faster on GPU chips
expert systems
systems that mimic humans
machine learning (ML)
algorithms that learn and make predictions about data
deep learning
- subset of ML
- discovery of new patterns without exposure to labelled historical or training data
neural networks
- set of virtual neurons or CPUs
- work in parallel to simulate the way the brain works
AI applications
- computer vision
- natural language processing
- robotics
- speech recognition
- intelligent agents (ex. shopping bot)
- monitoring + surveillance agents (predictive agents)
- user agents (personal agents)
robotics
- branch of science + engineering
- dedicated to design, construction and use of robots
- intersection of science, engineering + technology
- produce robots that can help + assist humans, or substitute or replicate human actions
