metranidazole

🔷MEMORY CARD FOR Metronidazole🔷

🔸Indicated in anaerobic infection like ANUG, and can be given in combination in Mixed infection (spreading odontogenic infection)

🔸Contraindication - cannot be given in combination with antiretroviral drug , prior history of hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole

🔸Avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding

🔸Dosage 400mg orally or 500mg IV 12 hrly

🔸Special instruction - avoid alcohol - causes disulfiram like reaction (diaphoresis, palpitations, facial flushing, nausea, vertigo, hypotension, and tachycardia)

🔸Avoided with warfarin

A

🔸- Anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties - available in gel, spray and mouthwash

🔸Indications - Gum inflammation , Traumatic ulcers, apthous ulcers, Herpetic gingivostomatitis and various other oral lesions such as lichen planus

🔸Dosage - 1% gel topical application every 2-3 hrly adult and child 6yr or older

🔸Oral mucositis - 0.15%solution in 15 ml rinsed in the mouth for 30 sec and spat out 1.5 - 3 hrly

🔸To maintain oral hygiene - Can be given in combination with chlorhexidine

🔸It can also be useful prior to toothbrushing to help maintain good oral hygiene.

🔸Contraindication - pt hypersensitive to NSAIDS

paracetamol

EMORY CARD FOR PARACETAMOL 🔷

🔸Most commonly used analgesic for dental pain of mild to moderate severity

🔸Can cause Severe liver dysfunction or hepatotoxocity in overdoses

🔸1000 mg orally do not exceed 4gm per day

🔸Indication: Safe for use in most patients including pregnant women, renal toxicity, cardiac toxicity

🔸Contraindicated in liver disease like liver cirrhosis

🔸Lethal dose 10g
