Accompaniment
The layers that go with the tune but are not tune itself
Acciaccatura
An ornament that’s played as quickly as possible before the written notes
Appogiatura
An ornament that clashes with the accompanying chord then resolves
Blue notes
The flattened notes in blues scale

A major scale with flattened 3rd and 7th
Call and response
A shot melody followed by an answering phrase

Where the same tune is played by two or more parts, each starting before the previous part has finished

A direction to play expressively

Sliding between two notes

Music that’s made up of two or more different versions of the same tune

Tune combined with chords

A short memorable bit of tune
Imitation
One voice or instrument copies another
