What is a monophonic texture?
A single melodic line of music
What is a homophonic texture?
A melody and accompaniment are played at the same time
What is a polyphonic texture?
Multiple melodies and lines are played together at the same time but the underneath accompaniment is more interesting
What is a melody- dominated homophony texture?
There is a clear difference between the melody and the accompaniment
What is chordal homophony texture?
The accompaniment uses the same rhythm as the melody
What is a round?
A polyphonic composition where each voice repeats the same melody, starting at different times
What are the two types of homophonic textures?
Melody- dominated homophony and chordal homophony
What is a canon?
A type of round where the initiative entry of each voice isn’t necessarily identical to the previous entry
What is a countermelody?
A secondary melody sounded alongside the principal melody
What is a descant?
A countermelody that is specifically played or sung above the principal melody
What is a drone accompaniment texture?
An accompaniment where a note or chord is sustained underneath a moving melody
What is an Alberti bass accompaniment texture?
An accompaniment which splits the three notes of the triad chord into a pattern
What is a walking bass accompaniment texture?
Simple accompaniment consisting of crotchets moving up or down a note on each beat
What are stab chords accompaniment texture?
Single notes or chords in the accompaniment which punctuate the texture like a stab
