What is an aria?
A song from an opera
What do you find the range?
Find the lowest and highest note and count the interval between them
What is syllabic vocals?
1 syllable is sung per note
What is melismatic vocals?
Many notes sung per syllable
What is a conjunct melody?
The notes next to them are only one step away
What is disjunct melody?
Notes next to each other that leap or skips to next note
What is a broken chord?
A chord played as single notes
What is imitation?
A melody copied from one instrument to another at the same pitch
What is an inversion?
A Melody that has been turned upside down
What is a sequence?
A Melody that is repeated at a higher or lower pitch
What is the upper mordent?
The note written is played and then the note above and then back down to the original note
What is the lower mordent?
The note written is played then the note below and then the original note
What is a trill?
Rapid alternating between two notes
What is the anacrusis?
The upbeat or an incomplete bar heard before the first bar line of the music
What is a slur?
Shows that the notes must be joined and played smoothly
