What is antiphonal dialogue?
An antiphonal texture is when there is more than one group of instruments or voices, usually placed in different parts of a church or concert venue. There is usually dialogue between the two groups and melodic ideas will be passed between them.
What is a canon?
A canon is a contrapuntal (counterpoint-based) compositional technique that employs a melody with one or more imitations of the melody played.
What does contrapuntal mean?
Composed of two or more relatively independent melodies sounded together.
What is monophony?
1 singular monophonic line.
What is homophony?
Multiple lines working together.
What is antiphony?
Musical lines being shared or repeated.
What is polyphony?
Multiple independant melodic lines.
What is heterophony?
Variations of a melody playing at the same time (super rare.)
What is a fugue?
A subject and a counter subject.
What is imitation?
The repetition of a phrase in a different voice/ sound.
What does polyrhythmic mean?
Simultaneous use of different rhythms in different parts.
What is an ostinato?
A repeating phrase.
