What is with nap ?
A fabric which has all the characteristic one way you have to lie the pattern pieces in the same direction
What is without nap
Without nap is where the characteristics do not have to be one way the pa tern pieces can therefore be laid in any direction
What is a warp
The warp is the strongest grain with a he least amount of stretch the warp grain is Parallel to the selvedge
What is the weft
The weft is the yarn that weaves under and over the warp yarns there is slightly more give in the weft grain
What is the bias
The bias is yeh diagonal grain of fabric at a 45 degree angle to the warp and the weft this is the most stretchy direction of the fabric
What is the Selvedge
The selvedge is the name given to the most neat firm edges on each side of the length of fabric the edge does not fray
What are fabric shears and what are they used for ?
Fabric shears are scissors and they are used for cutting fabric
What is there in your sewing kit ?

What does a quick in pick do ?
You use it to Un pick your stitching
What do you use a pin cushion for ?
You use a pin cushion to put pins in so you don’t poke your self
What do you use pins for
You use pins to join things together and you place them where you are going to sew as a guide line
What does a tape measure do ?
You use a tape measure to measure the amount or the circumference of what you need
What are sewing needles used for ?
Sewing needles are used to hand sew something you thread some thread through the needle and then start to sew
What do you use a tracing wheel for
You use a tracing wheel to mark where something needs to be
What do you use a Taylor’s chalk for
You use a Taylor’s chalk to mark material as it rubs of after a period of Time
What are safety pins in see for ?
Safety pins are used to connect something to something before you sew it
What is a needle threaded used for ?
It is used to thread a needle so it is easy to do it when you thread it
What should you do if you see pins on the floor ?
You should pick them up carefully so you don’t get pricked as if you left them on the floor people could step on them and get pins in their foot
What should you do if You see someone’s finger near the needle ?
You should tell them to move it because if you don’t they could sew their finger
What should you do if you see scissors open near someone’s arm
You should let them know so they could move their arm other wise they could cut her arm
What is the bsi mark and what does it stand for ?
The bsi mark is found on many fabric sans shows that, that fabric reaches the bsi standards. Bsi is short for British standards institution
What is the CE mark and what does it stand for ?
The CE marks how’s that the product is up to the European standards. CE stands for European conformity
What is a plain seam
A plain seam is where you mark the 1.5 seam allowance at the top and bottom edges of the fabric and then place the fabrics with the right sides together matching the seam marks you have hen sew down the stitching line,back tacking at each end so the seam line doesn’t un ravel and then go to the iron and press the seam open
