They are breathable and natural
How are fabrics made?
By weaving, knitting or felting fibres together.
What are fibres?
Fibres are fine hair-like structures that can be made into fabrics.
What are the two types of fibres?
They are either natural or sinthetic.
Where do natural fibres come from?
They come from plants such as cotton, flax, hemp, sisal, jute or coconut or animals, such as silk, wood and mohair.
What are some uses of wool?
Wool is usefull for many things such as: Coats, Jumpers, Carpets, Upholstery.
What are some properties of wool?
The scales of the fibre traps air and creates warmth.
What are some advantages of wool?
Its warm, absorbent, breathable, durable, repels rain, hangs well.
What are some disadvantages of wool?
its dries slowly, suspectible to moth attack, can feel inchy, washes poorly, can shrink, and heavy when wet.
What are some uses for cotton (plant)?
Cotton is used for many things such as: Towels, denim, socks, t-shirts and bedding.
What are some advantages of cotton?
Its cool, absorbant, soft, resists aveasion, withstands frequent washing at hich temperature, good drape and durable.
What are some disadvantages of cotton?
Its creases easily, burns, shrinks and dries slowly.
What are synthetic fibres made out of?
Artificial fibres are usually made using coal, oil, and other petrol-based chemicals.
What are some examples of synthetic fibres?
The examples are polyester, acrylic, polymide (nylon), elastane and kevlar.
What are some uses for polyester?
Polyester is used for many things such as: Raincoat, fleece, jacket
What are some advantages of of polyester?
Its strong, light, dries quickly, durable.
What are some disadvatages of polyster?
Its not environmentally friendly, not breathable

Acrylic is useful for many things such as: Jumpers and blankets.

Its warm, dries quikly, durable, and easy care.

Its feels stiff and can iritate the skin.

Calico is a plain weave, that is used everywhere, from artists canvas, pillow cases, curtains. Its made out of cotton.
What are some advantages for calico?
Its strong, cheap to make and good for printing.
What are some disadvantges for calico?
Its firm and not really good quality.

Denim is a fabric, made out of cotton.
What is Denim used for?
Its used for jeans, jackets and curtains.

Its hardwearing, strong, hangs well.
What are some adsadvantages for Denim?
Its Frays and tickness makes it hard to use.
What are the advantages of a polyester football shirt over a cotton one?
A polyester shirt is light and dries quikly.
A cotton shirt is natural, so more environmentally friendly, and cool.
What are the disadvantages of a polyester football shirt over a cotton one?
Its not enviromentally friendly and its not breathable.
