Used to explain a concept, or impart information to a wider audience. It does not include the author’s opinions, but focuses on accepted facts about a topic, including statistics or other evidence.
Expository
Painting a picture in words of a person, a place or thing. Might employ metaphor or other literary devices. Often found in fiction, and in non-fiction as well.
Descriptive
Main style of writing in academic papers. Used to convince the audience of a position or belief. Contains the author’s opinions and biases as well as justifications and reasons given as evidence of the correctness of his position.
Persuasive
Entertains, instructs, or informs readers by telling a story.
