-established 3 rivers: Neches (tripwire), Red River (northern river), and Sabine River (eastern boundary)

- never stepped foot in the state but had a huge influence on it
- claimed Neches river as a trip wire
- very passionate
- either hated him or loved him

- Man trying to find the new world to discover new trade routes
- Originally turned down by the Spanish queen but then she was convinced by Gabriel Sanchez to allow him to do the quest before he found trade routes for any other country

- great military chief
- won against millions of Aztechs
- was a seducer of women
- running from an angry husband he came to the new world
- came with many ships, weapons and armors
- Aztechs thought he was a god
- was after the three G’s: gold, glory, and god
- established Vernan Cruz (city on Gulf of Mexico)
Montezuma
- Emperor of the Aztecs
- Allowed Cortes to enter the heart of the city to study him and find the Spaniards’ weaknesses
- captured and killed by Cortes
Malinche
Woman that Cortes fell in love with, mother of his children, natural linguist and learned Spanish in a week, always honest and good to Cortes
Panfilio Narvaez
- battles Cortes’ army and is beat
- Cortes burns all his ships
- northern boss of Mexico
- teams up with Flores De Flaca

Instrument to navigate by using the stars

-one of the survivors of the Navarez expedition who washed up on the Galveston beach area where they met Karankawa Indians
Karankawa Indians
Known for eating people for power, saved the 50 men who washed up from Navarez’s expedition by putting them by a fire to warm up, very large/tall people, good hunters
