Tests Of The Knee Flashcards
What is the modified McMurry’s test?
Supine Lying
Knee is flexed and ankle in Dorsi flexion
The ankle is then scooped round left and right
Tests for meniscal tears
Sweep Test
Hand is moved superiorly on the medial aspect of the knee
The hand is then moved inferiorly on the lateral side
Positive result is a bulging or wave on the medial side of the knee
What is the Patella Tap Test/Ballotment Test?
Patient lying supine knee extended
One hand pushes down top of the leg to the patella
Their hand stays firmly here while the patella is tapped
Bouncing back or floating is a positive result
how do you do Apley’s Test?
Prone lying Knee at 90 degrees Fix thigh with yours Compress the tibia then rotn (both med and lat) Then repeat with distraction

meniscal is with compression
If distraction causes increase pain
then ligamentous
What is Valgus and Varus testing?

Their Tibia is moved medially testing the lateral collateral ligament
Laterally to test the medial collateral ligament

What are the Anterior and Posterior Cruciate Ligament Tests?
Knee is in 90 degrees flexion
Sit on gently on the foot of the patient
The tibia is pulled anteriorly testing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Test
The Tibia is forced posteriorly testing the Posterior Cruciate Ligament
Positive test will be increased movement in either ligaments
What is the Lachmen’s Test?
The knee is in 30 flexion
The Tibia is pulled anteriorly testing the ACL
Positive test = increased mobility > opposite limb
What is the Clarke’s Test/Patella grind test?
Compression of patella against trochlea
Contraction of quads isometrically
+ve=Looking for pain recreation and feeling any
grinding, clicking or alteration in symptoms
Compare with other limb
What is the Patella glide test?
Lateral and medial Should be 25-50% of patella size Positive tests: Less = hypo, More=hyper Compare opposite limb
