Tests of Difference Flashcards
1
Q
Describe t tests
A
- Widely used within psych
- Tests the difference between 2 mean scores; the larger the difference, the more likely to be significant
- 2 types = related t test and independent t test
2
Q
Describe related t test
A
When you have 2 sets of scores that are from a single sample
3
Q
Describe independent t test
A
When you have 2 sets of scores that are from different samples
4
Q
T test and SPSS:
- Levene’s test
- T
- Df
- Sig
A
- Levene’s test = shows whether there are equal variances in the data set; not significant the read top line, if significant read bottom line
- T = t value; the larger the number, the more significant
- Df = degree of freedom
- Sig = significance level; less than 0.05 = significant
5
Q
Describe effect sizes
A
- Looks at overlap between 2 distributions (less overlap = stronger effect)
- Use cohen’s d to work out effect size
1. Find the mean and the SD; add together and divide by2
2. Take mean from group 1 and 2 (ignore minus sign)
3. Divide answer in step 2 by answer of step 1
