Tests for Anions Flashcards

1
Q

Descibe the test to see if carbonates are present

A
  1. Add a dilute acid
  2. The carbonate and acid will react and form carbon dioxide and so effervesence is given off
  3. Bubble the gas through limewater, if the limewater turns cloudy white it means that carbon dioxide is present and so we started with a carbonate
