What is the test for starch?
A
Add iodine solution. Will go from orange yellow to blue-black if starch is present.

What is the test for glucose?
A
Add Benedict’s solution to the substance and heat for a few minutes. It will turn red-brown if glucose is present.

What is the test for proteins?
A
The biuret test is used to test for proteins by detecting peptide bonds in proteins. Add Biuret solution to the food and mix. It will turn purple if proteins are present.

What is the test for fats/lipids?
A
The emulsion test is used. Add ethanol to the test tube containing the food. Then add water, a milky white cloudy emulsion will form if lipids are present.
