Ammonium
Add Dilute sodium hydroxide solution
Gently heat
Ammonia can be identified using damp red litmus paper held above the test tube
Carbonate
Dilute HCL
Bubble gas through limewater
if carbonate present, limewater turns cloudy
Sulphate
Dilute HCL
add a few drops of barium chloride solution
if sulfate is present, a white precipitate is formed
Chloride
Add dilute nitric acid
Add a few drops of silver nitrate solution
If chlorine is present, a white precipitate is formed
Bromide
dilute nitric acid
add few drops of silver nitrate solution
if bromine is present, cream precipitate is formed
Iodide
Add dilute nitric acid
add a few drops of silver nitrate solution
If iodide is present, a yellow precipitate is formed
