Test Topics 5 Flashcards
Temperature
the measurement of the average IKE (the motion of the molecules) in a substance.
Heat
a measure of how many atoms there are in a substance multiplied by how much energy each atom posses.
Kinetic Theory of Matter
states that all particles, atoms, molecules; basically all matter, is moving due to the enormous amount of space between molecules
Gas
no shape, weak and the molecules move fast
Liquid
takes the shape of the container, strong, and molecules move slowly
Solid
has a definite shape, strong attraction between molecules, and molecules move slow.
IKE
molecules that are inside moving objects in motion (molecules moving) Ex: water that is moving
EKE
motion you can visually see. Ex: motions of a car
IPE
changing the distance between molecules
EPE
movement about to occur, that can be seen. Ex: rock being lifted and held above the earth’s surface
